Vimium brings vim-style keyboard navigation to your browser. Once you experience browsing without a mouse, you'll wonder how you ever managed.
What is Vimium?
A browser extension that adds vim-style keyboard shortcuts for navigation:
- j/k - scroll down/up
- f - show link hints to click
- / - search on page
- gi - go to first input
- t - new tab
Key Features
Link Hints
Press f and every clickable element gets a letter combination. Type it to click. This is the killer feature.
Vomnibar
Press o for a combined URL/search/bookmark bar. b for bookmarks specifically.
Visual Mode
Press v to enter visual mode and select text with vim motions.
Benefits
- Speed: Navigate pages faster than with a mouse
- Focus: Less context switching between keyboard and mouse
- Consistency: Same mental model as vim/Neovim
- Ergonomics: Hands stay on the home row
Installation
Available for Chrome, Firefox, and Chromium-based browsers. The configuration is straightforward, and you can customize keybindings to match your preferences.
